Anna Paquin joins The Affair for final season

Back in July it was announced that Showtime had renewed its Golden Globe-winning drama The Affair for a fifth and final season, and now comes word that Anna Paquin (X-Men, True Blood) has joined the acclaimed series.

Paquin is set to portray Joanie Lockhart, the now-adult daughter of Alison (Ruth Wilson) and Cole (Joshua Jackson), in a flash-forward storyline which sees Joanie “returning some years in the future to a climate-change ravaged Montauk to piece together the truth about what happened to her mother and bringing the whole story full circle.”

In addition to the flash-forwards, the season will also explore the events in the months following Alison’s death, with the two narratives running parallel.

Dominic West (Noah), Maura Tierney (Helen), Julia Goldani Telles (Whitney), Jadon Sand (Trevor) and Sanaa Lathan (Janelle) will all return as series regulars, while Joshua Jackson could potentially feature as a guest star in one or two episodes. New cast members include Claes Bang, Emily Browning, Omar Metwally, Russell Hornsby, Abigail Dylan Harrison, Jake Siciliano, Kathleen Chalfant, Max Fowler and John Doman.

The fifth and final season of The Affair will air on Showtime in 2019.
