Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema unleashed the latest instalment in The Conjuring Universe this past Friday, with Annabelle: Creation pulling in a worldwide opening weekend of $71.7 million.
Domestically, Annabelle: Creation opened with $35 million, down $2 million from its predecessor back in 2014 (for further comparison, The Conjuring opened to $41.9 million in 2013, followed by The Conjuring 2 on $40.4 million last year).
International receipts added a further $36.7 million, meaning that the David F. Sandberg-helmed prequel is already in the black, having been produced on a budget of just $15 million. It also pushes The Conjuring franchise towards a combined $1 billion, with the four movies having grossed $966.9 million to date.
