How’s this for a set of headline acts? A24 and David Lowery are getting the band back together for an epic pop melodrama starring Michaela Coel and Anne Hathaway.
Deadline reports that The Green Knight collaborators are teaming up for Mother Mary, which has also been written by Lowery, and is described as an epic pop melodrama following a fictional musician (Anne Hathaway) and her relationship with an iconic fashion designer (Michaela Coel).
For a film about pop-music, it’s important that they get the tunes right, so Fun’s Jack Antonoff and Charli XCX will write and produce original songs for Mother Mary, with an original score composed by Lowery’s regular music-man Daniel Hart.
Next up for Lowery is Disney’s latest re-telling of J.M. Barrie’s boy who never grew up, with Peter Pan and Wendy, which hits Disney+ in April.
Following her award-winning breakout in I May Destroy You, Michaela Coel was last seen in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, and this year has Donald Glover’s long-gestating Mr. and Mrs. Smith series to shoot.
Academy Award winner Hathaway also has the musical-themed drama The Idea of You dropping in 2023, as well as psychological thriller Mother’s Instinct.
