Anne Winters joins The Orville season 3 as series regular

November 6, 2019 by Ricky Church

When The Orville returns for its third season on Hulu, it will do so with a new cast member. Per Deadline, the series has cast Anne Winters (13 Reasons Why) as a series regular for the upcoming season.

Winters will play Charly Burke, but no other information regarding her character has been revealed. She joins a cast that includes Seth MacFarlane, Adrianne Palicki, Penny Johnson Jerald, Scott Grimes, Peter Macon, J Lee, Mark Jackson, Chad L. Coleman and Jessica Szohr.

Created and written by MacFarlane (Family Guy), season 3 of The Orville, set 400 years in the future, sees the crew of the U.S.S. Orville continue their mission of exploration as they navigate both the mysteries of the universe and the complexities of their own interpersonal relationships.

The first two season of The Orville premiered on Fox, but when MacFarlane thought they could not get the third season ready for an early 2020 premiere on the network, they decided to work with Hulu for a late 2020 premiere on the streaming service.

“As the show has evolved and become more ambitious production-wise, I determined that I would not be able to deliver episodes until 2020, which would be challenging for the network,” MacFarlane said at San Diego Comic Con this summer. “So we began to discuss how best to support the third season in a way that worked for the show. It’s exactly this kind of willingness to accommodate a show’s creative needs that’s made me want to stick around for so long. I am hugely indebted to Charlie Collier and Fox Entertainment for their generosity and look forward to developing future projects there. And to my new friends at Hulu, I look forward to our new partnership exploring the galaxy together.”
