As Captain Marvel continues production, it has cast another big actress in the film. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Annette Bening (Film Stars Don’t Die In Liverpool) is the latest to be cast in the film.
Though THR doesn’t state what her role is beyond that of a “scientist”, Variety later reported she will be portraying Marie Danvers, the mother of Brie Larson’s Carol Danvers who becomes the film’s central heroine, Captain Marvel.
With Avengers: Infinity War having just been released and breaking box office records, Marvel Studios’ next film in the MCU is Ant-Man and the Wasp, due out in July, and then Captain Marvel in March 2019 before the untitled Avengers 4 in May. The Russo Brothers recently revealed that they considered introducing Captain Marvel in Infinity War, but decided to save her introduction for her own film and Avengers.
The story follows Carol Danvers as she becomes one of the universe’s most powerful heroes when Earth is caught in the middle of a galactic war between two alien races. Set in the 1990s, “Captain Marvel” is an all-new adventure from a previously unseen period in the history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Captain Marvel is being directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck (Mississippi Grind) and sees Brie Larson (Kong: Skull Island) leading the cast as Carol Danvers alongside Samuel L. Jackson (The Avengers), Ben Mendelsohn (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story), Djimon Hounsou (Guardians of the Galaxy), Lee Pace (Guardians of the Galaxy), Lashana Lynch (Fast Girls), Gemma Chan (Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them), Algenis Perez Soto (Sambá), Rune Temte (Eddie The Eagle), McKenna Grace (I, Tonya), Annette Bening (American Beauty) with Clark Gregg (The Avengers), and Jude Law (Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald).
