Francis Galluppi stunned with his feature directorial debut The Last Stop in Yuma County, and now he’s opening up the Necronomicon.
Deadline reported that Galluppi is joining the elite list of filmmakers (Sam Raimi, Fede Álvarez, and Lee Cronin) to direct an Evil Dead film. Sam Raimi and Robert Tapert’s Ghost House Pictures are developing the film, which is being labelled as an original story from Galluppi.
Plot details are being kept tightly under wraps for now. There’s no word on whether it will directly connect to any of the other films or become another fresh story in this new era for Evil Dead.
Raimi tells Deadline: “Francis Galluppi is a storyteller who knows when to keep us waiting in simmering tension and when to hit us with explosive violence. He is a director that shows uncommon control in his feature debut.”
This marks the second of two new Evil Dead films in development, as it was reported back in February that Ghost House has tapped Sébastien Vaniček to co-write and direct a new spin-off.
Galluppi’s debut feature, a crime thriller titled The Last Stop In Yuma County, will be released by Well Go USA Entertainment on May 10th.
The film is still in its early stages of production. There is no set date for its completion or the release of the new Evil Dead movie.
