Edgar Wright’s next movie is gaining momentum after securing financial backing and receiving the green light from Sony and now it has cast its leading man in The Fault In Our Stars‘ Ansel Elgort.
Baby Driver – which is also being co-written by Wright – will be his first directing job since controversially leaving Marvel’s Ant-Man last summer. It will tell the story of a young getaway driver who becomes involved with a crime boss and a huge heist-gone-wrong.
Speaking on behalf of his financial backing company TriStar, Tom Rothman said: “We’re delighted to be riding shotgun as Edgar Wright takes the wheel of his next film…TriStar is in the business of backing original voices, and he is all that.”
Edgar Wright has been developing Baby Driver for a number of years now and in fact it was due to be his next project after Scott Pilgrim vs the World but it stalled and he went ahead with the final instalment in his “Cornetto Trilogy” The World’s End then was chosen to bring Ant-Man to the big screen.
Variety is reporting that Ansel Elgort’s inclusion hasn’t been 100% confirmed but that talks are almost done and a deal is close to being finalised. Other actors originally up for the part were Logan Lerman (Fury) and John Boyega (Star Wars: The Force Awakens).
