Anthony Mackie is upset there’s no Falcon and the Winter Soldier Season 2

March 24, 2024 by EJ Moreno

Anthony Mackie had a fantastic time creating The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and was “excited” to return for another round.

Sadly (or not so sadly, depending on who you ask), the Disney+ superhero series was not renewed for a second season; rather, they gave Mackie’s newly minted Captain American his own movie.

Set to star in Captain America: Brave New World, the actor is reflecting on his time shooting The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, and he tells RadioTimes it was amazing to get paid to hang out with his friends. Mackie tells the outlet that he’ll miss the hangout sessions with the first-season crew.

“I really enjoyed doing that show. I was actually excited to do a second season, just so me and Sebastian [Stan] can get paid to hang out. Because it’s like me, him, and Daniel Brühl, it’s kind of like the perfect storm of happiness,” expresses the actor. Adding, “Anything I can do to hang out with Daniel, a dancing Daniel Brühl, makes me very happy.”

While Mackie moves onto his own adventure as Captain America, Sebastian Stan will co-star in Thunderbolts, which is set for release in 2025. The Falcon and the Winter Soldier is streaming on Disney+.

Captain America: Brave New World will star Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson, Harrison Ford as General Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross, a returning Liv Tyler reprising her role as Betty Ross from The Incredible Hulk, Danny Ramirez as Joaquin Torres, Carl Lumbly as Isaiah Bradley, Tim Blake Nelson as The Leader, and Shira Haas as Sabra. Julius Onah (The Cloverfield Paradox) is directing from a script initially written by The Falcon and the Winter Soldier writer Malcolm Spellman & Dalan Musson.

Captain America: Brave New World will be released on February 14, 2025.
