The Witch and Split star Anya Taylor-Joy has signed on for the title role in Emma, a new adaptation of the classic Jane Austen novel which will mark the feature debut of music video director Autumn de Wilde.
Published in 1815, Emma tells the story of a young woman who, despite the best intentions, heedlessly meddles in people’s romantic affairs as she tries to play matchmaker.
Emma has been scripted by Man Booker Prize winner Eleanor Catton (The Luminaries) and will be produced by Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner of Working Title, along with Graham Broadbent (Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri).
Taylor-Joy will reprise her Split role for January’s Glass and has the X-Men spinoff The New Mutants incoming next year, while she will also appear in the fifth series of the British crime drama Peaky Blinders. Her other upcoming projects include Here Are the Young Men, Weetzie Bat, and Playmobil: The Movie.
