James Wan, the director of Aquaman, once pitched a Blade reboot.
These days James Wan is busy promoting his new film Aquaman for Warner Bros. and DC, his first foray into comic book movies. But this wasn’t the start of Wan’s interest in the genre.
According to Wan, in a recent interview with the Happy Sad Confused podcast, he actually pitched a reboot for Marvel’s Blade. Speaking about his first association with a comic book film project, the director said:
“Years back, a couple of years back, I think it was right after Conjuring 1 that I went into a particular studio and told them ‘Hey, I’m a big fan of Blade. Would you guys be interested in rebooting Blade?’ So that was one. Obviously, nothing came out of that! But that was my first intro into looking at potential comic book properties.
“It was just to kind of talk about it. I didn’t have a full presentation. I did have an idea, I can’t quite remember what it was. That’s how far back it was and I’ve done a lot since then so I can’t quite remember what I had thought of. But I did like it at the time.”
Blade is a Marvel hero currently on the backburner these days but perhaps we could see the character rear his head once more, whether with Wesley Snipes reprising the role or a fresh face.
