Aquaman may have been knocked from the top of the domestic box office by The Upside this weekend, but Warner Bros. is celebrating a major milestone today with the DC Extended Universe blockbuster crossing the billion dollar mark at the global box office.
With $287.9 million from North America and $734.2 million domestically, Aquaman has now banked a whopping $1.020 billion. It’s the first DCEU release to hit the billion dollar mark, and only the third DC movie in history to do so after The Dark Knight ($1.003 billion) and The Dark Knight Rises ($1.085 billion).
At this point, it seems likely that Aquaman will just about have enough in the tank to surpass The Dark Knight Rises, making it the most successful DC movie of all time.
Honestly, who would have thought it?
