Arnold Schwarzenegger says Terminator 6 will keep it simple

October 25, 2017 by Matt Rodgers

While promoting his hitman comedy Killing Gunther, former T-800 and “pops”, Arnold Schwarzenegger has been talking about the Tim Miller (Deadpool) directed and James Cameron produced Terminator reboot.

Set to begin production in March, Arnie told Business Insider that the much maligned Terminator: Genisys was simply too complicated, assuring fans burnt by the diminishing returns of the franchise that “[James] Cameron and Tim [Miller] came up with a concept where they can continue on with the T-800 but make a whole new movie… What they are doing now with this one is basically to just take a few very basic characters, like Linda Hamilton’s character and my character, and dismiss everything else. Just move away from all these rules of the timeline and other characters.”

On this, Schwarzenegger was also critical of the way the last film treated his iconic role, saying “I think the T-800 model is a really interesting character. “He’s a machine, can be destructive, can do things human beings can’t do, but at the same time when newer technology comes along the character suddenly is vulnerable and that makes him even more interesting,” adding that Genisys simply made the T-800 “an ordinary guy who suddenly gets activated again.”

Terminator: Genisys made $350m at the global box-office, but clunked worse than a Stan Winston created exoskeleton. However, with Linda Hamilton set to reprise her role as Sarah Connor, and a creative team openly looking to terminate the failures of previous instalments, is it time we got excited about the franchise all over again?

Terminator 6 is set for release on July 26th 2019.
