Deadline has revealed that Ubisoft and New Regency’s forthcoming adaptation of the hit video games series Assassin’s Creed is to undergo a rewrite courtesy of Adam Cooper and Bill Collage, the screenwriters behind Ridley Scott’s biblical epic Exodus. The duo’s other upcoming credits include Darren Aronofsky’s planned George Washington biopic The General, as well as an adaptation of the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel Devil in the Grove and Jerry Bruckheimer disaster flick Shake.
The movie adaptation of Assassin’s Creed is being developed as a vehicle for Michael Fassbender (12 Years a Slave, X-Men: Days of Future Past), who is attached to co-produce and star. The original draft was penned by newcomer Michael Lesslie, with Scott Frank (The Wolverine) subsequently rewriting. A director is yet to become attached, although Daniel Espinosa (Safe House) has been rumoured as a possibility.
