Atari will be bringing a touch of nostalgia into gamer’s lives as they reveal the latest instalment of their recharged series, Berzerk: Recharged. Berzerk was quite rightly considered one of the best games on the 2600 and provided 100s of hours of top-down shooting enjoyment. Watch the new announcement trailer below….
In Berzerk: Recharged players will fight their way through deadly mazes filled with hordes of armed vocal robots all intent on killing the player. These killer robots will chase players around the screen shouting out “kill the humanoid” and, “Chicken, fight like a robot!” but only until you kill them all. The biggest villain of the game is the Evil Otto, a large bouncing smiley face that will never run, can move through walls and is invincible. When Otto comes on the screen it is time to run.
Berzerk: Recharged features:
- An endless amount of levels that get increasingly harder as the player progresses.
- Twenty hand-crafted mazes offering unique gameplay challenges with different layouts.
- An assortment of weapon modifiers, including spread-shot, big shot and a series-staple railgun.
- Find different player modifiers that can speed up, provide a shield and placeable mines.
- Co-op play and leaderboards to track player’s accomplishments.
- A brand-new soundtrack by the acclaimed Megan McDuffee.
- Updated graphics and deft twin-stick controls.
Atari will also be releasing a Berzerk Enhanced Edition, a 2600 cartridge that will work with the upcoming Atari 2600+. This version will be updated with diagonal shooting and robot voice sampling.
Berzerk: Recharged will release later this year on Xbox Series X/S, Playstation 4 and 5, Nintendo Switch, Windows PC and the Atari VCS.
