Avengers: Endgame directors confirm that Loki created an alternate reality

May 16, 2019 by Samuel Brace

Joe and Anthony Russo, the directors of Avengers: Endgame, have confirmed that Tom Hiddleston’s Loki indirectly created an alternate reality during the film.

With all the time travel involved with Avengers: Endgame, a true can of worms has been opened, along with an entire multiverse. One of these alternate realities could also have significant ramifications for the MCU.

Joe and Anthony Russo, the directors of Endgame, have confirmed to Business Insider that because Loki stole the Tesseract and then disappeared, this has created another reality that never should have existed. Joe said about Captain America’s mission:

“The intent was that [Steve] was going to correct the past timelines at the point that the stones left. Loki, when he teleports away with the Time Stone, would create his own timeline. It gets very complicated, but it would be impossible for [Cap] to rectify the timeline unless he found Loki. The minute that Loki does something as dramatic as take the Space Stone, he creates a branched reality.”

It’s all very complicated stuff and it would be interesting to see just what this version of Loki then gets up to with the Stone. One assumes it would be nothing good. Perhaps we’ll get to witness it for ourselves in the upcoming Disney+ Loki series?, which is said to follow the God of Mischief as he “pops up throughout human history as unlikely influencer on historical events.”

Avengers: Endgame stars Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man), Chris Evans (Captain America), Mark Ruffalo (Hulk), Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow), Jeremy Renner (Hawkeye), Josh Brolin (Thanos), Brie Larson (Captain Marvel), Paul Rudd (Scott Lang), Don Cheadle (War Machine), Karen Gillan (Nebula), Chadwick Boseman (Black Panther), Tom Holland (Spider-Man), Sebastian Stan (Winter Soldier), Anthony Mackie (Falcon), Elizabeth Olsen (Scarlet Witch), Benedict Cumberbatch (Doctor Strange), Danai Gurira (Okoye), Benedict Wong (Wong), Chris Pratt (Star-Lord), Zoe Saldana (Gamora), Dave Bautista (Drax), Bradley Cooper (Rocket), Vin Diesel (Groot), Karen Gillan (Nebula), Pom Klementieff (Mantis), Tom Hiddleston (Loki), Gwyneth Paltrow (Pepper Potts), Evangeline Lilly (The Wasp), Letitia Wright (Shuri) and Tessa Thompson (Valkyrie).
