Co-director of Avengers: Infinity War, Anthony Russo, has explained what he believes to be Thanos’ noble nature.
There’s no denying that the villain of Avengers: Infinity War made an impact, both in the fictional world he inhabits and on current cinematic culture. Thanos is fondly thought of as one of the MCU’s best villains but what about him as an individual?
Well, according to co-director Anthony Russo on a commentary track for the home release of the movie (via ComicBook.com), there is a level of “nobility” to his behaviour that sets him apart from most other villains:
“That’s I think, one of the most unnerving things about Thanos, is that there is a nobility in him, you know? It’s not ego, it’s not power. He basically looks at himself as a servant and when he’s finished with his service, he rests.”
There is no question that Thanos evokes a very different reaction from audiences when compared to the lion’s share of other MCU villains. By the time the film is over, its Thanos who audiences are left thinking about, especially regarding his motives and how he ticks.
Would you agree with Russo’s assessment of Thanos ?
