After impressing with Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Captain America: Civil War, directors Anthony and Joe Russo were chosen by Marvel to succeed Joss Whedon on the Avengers series, with the brothers handling both Avengers: Infinity War and the as-yet-untitled Avengers 4.
However, unlike The Avengers and Avengers: Age of Ultron helmer Whedon – who took over from Zack Snyder as director of the DC Extended Universe team-up Justice League, and was also attached to a Batgirl solo movie – the Russos have revealed that they have no interested in tackling a DC Comics movie in the future.
During a Q&A at the Smithsonian Institute in Washington, the Russos were asked about the possibility of tackling a DC movie, the brothers responding that they were always bigger fans of Marvel than DC growing up, and felt more connected to the underdogs of the Marvel universe, whereas the majority of DC characters felt too powerful and unrelatable.
Despite dismissing the possibility of directing a DC film, Joe Russo did go on to pay tribute to Batman, stating that he felt the Dark Knight was one of the most interesting characters in the DC universe due to his humanity and fallibility.
