It’s tracking one of – if not the – biggest box office openings in history, and Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War has certainly got off to a fine start, raking in $134 million by close of play on Thursday.
In North America, Infinity War amassed a whopping $39 million in Thursday previews, a new Marvel record (previously held by Avengers: Age of Ultron on $27.6 million) and surpassed only by Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Star Wars: The Last Jedi and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2.
Internationally, the movie has pulled in a further $95 million from 43 markets, having opened in 21 on Wednesday, and a further 22 on Thursday. South Korea leads the way on $11.4 million, followed by Australia with $10 million and the United Kingdom with $8.9 million.
Estimates have put the Marvel blockbuster’s worldwide opening in the region of $500 million, which would position it fourth behind Jurassic World ($524.9 million), Star Wars: The Force Awakens ($529 million) and The Fate of the Furious ($541.9 million) in terms of the biggest global debuts of all time. Unlike Jurassic World and The Fate of the Furious however, Infinity War does not open in China until May 11th.
