Next year will see the release of Marvel’s hugely-anticipated superhero blockbuster Avengers: Infinity War, the first of a two-part story serving as a culmination of the first decade of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
During an interview with CinemaBlend, co-director Joe Russo has been chatting about the epic scope of the event movie, discussing the challenges of such a massive undertaking, and revealing that it will weave together almost every single narrative of the MCU.
“Everything is setting up Infinity War,” said Russo. “Every narrative that you have seen in any of the Marvel movies leading up to this point comes to bear in some way because all of the characters and all of the franchises are coming together, bringing their themes and their tone and the things that motivate the characters are driving them through this story. It has been the hardest part of the job for us, is melding all of that together, But thankfully, we got Markus and McFeely working with us. They are incredible collaborators. They wrote Winter Soldier for us, and Civil War. Now they’re writing both Avengers movies. I feel like we’ve got a great Vulcan mind meld between the two of them, and me and my brother.”
As the Avengers and their allies have continued to protect the world from threats too large for any one hero to handle, a new danger has emerged from the cosmic shadows: Thanos. A despot of intergalactic infamy, his goal is to collect all six Infinity Stones, artifacts of unimaginable power, and use them to inflict his twisted will on all of reality. Everything the Avengers have fought for has led up to this moment – the fate of Earth and existence itself has never been more uncertain.
