Last week it was reported that a TV spinoff to the Bad Boys franchise is in development, which will centre around the character of Syd Burnett, played by Gabrielle Union in 2003’s Bad Boys II.
Now we have word that the project – which is being written by The Blacklist writers-producers Brandon Margolis and Brandon Sonnier, with Jerry Bruckheimer producing – has found a home, with NBC handing out a pilot production commitment.
The potential series will see Union’s Syd – the sister of Martin Lawrence’s Marcus Burnett – as an LAPD detective, who is pursuing all the pleasures Los Angeles has to offer as she looks to leave her past behind. However, things get complicated when her new partner, Nancy McKenna, learns that Syd’s unapologetic lifestyle may be masking a greater personal secret.
A third Bad Boys movie – dubbed Bad Boys for Life – remains in development at Sony, although writer-director Joe Carnahan recently exited the project, prompting the studio to pull the threequel from its release slate. Its current status remains unknown.
