Batgirl begins… production for the HBO Max film starring Leslie Grace (In the Heights). The news was made by director Bilall Fallah through his Instagram with a first look at the film’s logo and other items of interest.
Grace will play Barbara Gordon, the daughter of police commissioner Jim Gordon, who is secretly Batgirl. She is most often seen in the comics and other Batman media as a tech wizard, but in Batgirl it seems she will also be a member of the Gotham City Police Department as a desk plate in the photo reads ‘Officer Barbara Gordon’, following in the footsteps of her father.
It also looks like the GCPD will have something a retro look to it given the old computer and reels of film in the background among Barbara’s papers. Keen eyes will also note some tinsel and paper snowflakes hanging around her desk. This may just be because production is starting with the holiday season, or it may suggest Batgirl will take place around Christmastime. We’ll have to wait and see if Batgirl will be another superhero film with a holiday theme to it.
