…Moving on to the Marvel Cinematic Universe now and Captain America: Civil War directors Joe and Anthony Russo have been discussing Spider-Man’s costume design for his MCU debut: “The design of the costume is what it is. That’s the design that we love, it’s the design that Kevin Feige loves and so on. He’s a very popular character so it’s always going to be controversial, people are always going to love or hate what you do with him, but all we can do is make sure that we love it, that we are true to ourselves and true to how we feel about the character and then hope that everybody else digs it. And there is still effects work that needs to be done on it. We like making strong choices with characters so while this might be a slightly more traditional, Steve Ditko influenced suit, it is certainly in our vocabulary to develop it into something more extreme as the storytelling requires. I think there are things that people will discover when they see the film about why the suit operate the way it does, why the eyes move, all that stuff is substantiated. Everybody wants the answers yesterday but then what would be the point of seeing the movie..?”
…The Russos also went on to state that it’s “to be determined” whether Spider-Man will feature in their next Marvel offering Avengers: Infinity War, but they have revealed that they’ll be introducing new characters during the two-part Marvel epic…

…Coinciding with his latest outing as the Man Without Fear, Charlie Cox has been speaking about whether his Matt Murdock would fit in alongside the Avengers on the big screen side of the Marvel Cinematic Universe: “Some people have said that they wonder about, based on the tone the show, how Matt would fit in with the Avengers,” states Cox. “I was reading Civil War the other day, and Matt Murdock… is kind of an ass. He’s in the back, standing around grumpy a lot of the time, and every now and again, he just says ‘Well, we’re not doing that’ or something to that effect, and I’m like, ‘That’s the character, we’re fine.’ So tonally, with Matt I think we’re right on point and he’d be a perfect fit in the larger MCU….”

…Sticking with The Defenders and Marvel also released the first teaser image for Iron Fist this week, while Marvel’s head of television Jeph Loeb spoke about Danny Rand’s upcoming series and how it will differ from the other Netlix shows: “I think the Danny Rand character himself will have a different perspective on the world than some of the characters that you’re seeing now — as will Luke Cage. Our goal is to provide four different shows that each have their own feel while, again, feeling like they are a part of a whole. It’s still the early stages of Iron Fist, so I’m a little hesitant to say too much more than that. But Danny Rand is a completely different character, and the world that he comes from, how he obtained his powers and his skills — all completely different. I think fans will be pleased…”

…Moving on to Fox and with Batman v Superman incoming and Civil War’s trailer last week, the studio reminded us that Deadpool isn’t its only superhero movie of the year by releasing a new trailer for X-Men: Apocalypse; while this week also brought us a series of interlocking magazine covers and some new promotional artwork courtesy of theater concession packaging, while Olivia Munn also spoke about her role as Psylocke, stating that: “I’ve loved Psylocke for so long. She’s a really, really strong badass female character in this comic book world where a lot of times the women don’t get to be strong and badass. You see a lot of superheroes [who] don’t always want to kill, and they’ll avoid it if they can. She’s never had a problem killing, and I like that she was the bad guy that had no problem being the bad guy. She’s telekinetic and telepathic so she can read your mind. She can create anything with her mind. To win any fights, she can just create a mountain and have it fall down on you, but she chooses to create a sword so she can kill up close and personal. I always thought that was really cool and badass…”
…Deadpool reached another box office milestone this week, crossing the $700 million mark worldwide. …Miles Teller took a moment this week to reflect on the failure of last year’s Fantastic Four reboot, stating that: “People think that when you make something like a Fantastic Four that doesn’t do well, people think ‘Oh you phoned it in’ and it couldn’t be more untrue. You work harder on the bad films, or the films that turn out maybe not the way you intended, because something’s not working. And I thought it was kind of unjustly critiqued that way; there are even bigger bombs if you’re looking at how much money went into the production and what they reaped back. But I think it’s unfortunate a movie like that becomes a scarlet letter on a resume when so many talented people worked really hard and maybe a handful of people took it in a negative direction. But so many people worked really hard on that that are so talented…”
…You wait a whole year for an update from Todd McFarlane on his long-gestating Spawn reboot, and then two come along at once. Well, almost. We heard from McFarlane last month, and now he’s given another update on his latest draft of the script: “Right now I’m at 132 pages, which means it’s a little bit too long. I was up at around 145, but I’ve got some scenes to add in and then some scenes to pull out to go back down. Once I get it down I’m going to send it to a couple of people to read and give me their comments and they’ll tell me, ‘Todd I don’t think this line is good, we don’t like what you’ve done here’. Once I’ve got it down and buttoned up I’m going to get at least two actors, and at that point it will start to speed up. Still got to get to 120, get an actor or two and then officially tell you, ‘yes the money is in and we’re going to make it…'”
