It’s been an annual fixture since the series was relaunched back in 2005, but according to a report from The Mirror is to be believed, there’ll be no Doctor Who Special for fans to unwrap this Christmas Day.
According to The Mirror, Doctor Who bosses have “run out” of Yuletide storylines – but will instead air an hour-long special at the New Year which will see Jodie Whittaker’s Time Lord and her companions welcoming in 2019.
“We seem to be filming 11 episodes, and it’s only a series of 10,” new showrunner Chris Chibnall revealed at the San Diego Comic-Con this past summer. “I would definitely think there’s another episode after the end of the series.”

The tenth and final episode of Doctor Who’s currently eleventh series is set to air on December 9th. As yet, there’s been no confirmation from the BBC that the special will skip Christmas, but with the holiday season fast approaching it’s surely only a matter of time until we get some official news.
