Fresh from the box office success of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, it looks like director Bill Condon may have found his next project, with Deadline reporting that the filmmaker is in talks with Universal to helm their planned Bride of Frankenstein remake.
Condon does have previous history with Bride of Frankenstein, having including a homage to the classic Monster movie in The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1, as well as writing and directing Gods and Monsters, which revolved around Frankenstein and Bride of Frankenstein director James Whale and saw him receiving the Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay.
Bride of Frankenstein will be part of Universal’s shared Classic Monsters universe, which launches this summer with The Mummy. Previous rumours have suggested that Universal wants Angelina Jolie for the lead role as The Monster’s Bride, played by Elsa Lanchester in the original movie.
