Beetlejuice came back into the mainstream last year in a big way with a new Tim Burton-helmed sequel. Now Warner Bros. wants more, so we’ll see another spooky outing with this ghostly character.
Speaking with Deadline, Warner Bros Pictures co-chairman/CEOs Mike De Luca and Pam Abdy say we can expect more from the sequels. When asked if there are more plans for IPs like A Minecraft Movie and Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, De Luca answered, “Imminently. The ink might not be dry on the deals yet, but imminently.”
Beetlejuice (1988) grossed over $74 million worldwide on a $15 million budget, won an Academy Award for Best Makeup, and helped solidify Burton’s career. The recent, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, grossed approximately $451 million worldwide, including $294 million domestically and $157 million internationally.
When Burton was asked about the third film by /Film, he says, “Yeah, I mean, they talk, whatever, but if it follows the model now, I’d be making that when I’d be over 100 [years old], and it’s possible, but I don’t know. With medical science these days, I don’t know. But no, I mean, like I said, for me, I wasn’t really personally interested — if you said it to me, I would run the other direction. This is one where it was something that caught my thing. Now, would something else hit? I don’t know. Not right now, because I’m still finishing this one, basically.”
Will it be named “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” as fans are expecting? Only time will tell, but stay tuned to Flickering Myth for more updates.
