Deadline has revealed that four actresses are reportedly in the running to join Lionsgate’s upcoming Robin Hood film, Robin Hood: Origins.
Taron Egerton (Kingsman: The Secret Service) has already been cast in the lead as the famous thief from Nottingham, and the filmmakers have set about finding their leading lady and have shortlisted British actress Gugu Mbatha-Raw (Belle) as well as Lucy Fry (Vampire Academy), Gaite Jansen (Supernova) and Eve Hewson (The Knick) as the potential candidates to join the film.
No offers have been made to any actresses just yet, although Lionsgate is keen for the project to get underway as quickly as it can as there are a few other rival projects set to go into production, as well as star Egerton’s commitment to a Kingsman sequel, which is slated to film next year.
Disney is set to make Nottingham & Hood while Sony spent $1million last year on a pitch by writers Cory Goodman and Jeremy Lott which Jerry Bruckheimer (Pirates of the Caribbean) is set to produce. Warner Bros are also looking at making a Robin Hood film based on a script by Aquaman scribe Will Beall.
Otto Bathurst (Peaky Blinders) is directing Robin Hood: Origins, with Leonardo DiCaprio’s Appian Way producing.
