Ben Affleck remains attached to The Batman… as producer

August 11, 2018 by Gary Collinson

It’s been a year and a half now since Matt Reeves was first announced as director on The Batman, and since that time we’ve had rumour upon rumour regarding Ben Affleck’s status as the Dark Knight.

Last week, Reeves offered an update on the project, revealing that he hopes to begin shooting the solo movie in the spring of 2019. However, while he admitted that he’s still in contact with Affleck about the film, he stopped short of confirming whether or not it would be the Batman v Superman and Justice League star donning the cape and cowl once again.

Well, in one small update from Production Weekly, it has been revealed that Affleck does remain attached to the film as producer. That would certainly explain why Reeves and Affleck are communicating with each other, but of course it doesn’t necessarily mean that there are any plans for him to star in the movie.

Affleck already written a script (which has since been tossed out) and spent around a year developing the film as director, so one would have to have to assume that he’ll be credited as a producer or executive producer regardless of whether he has any further input into the movie, either in front of or behind the camera.

Reading between the lines on this whole saga, the smart money would seem to indicate that a decision on Affleck’s future as Batman is yet to be made, either by Warner Bros./DC Films or Affleck himself. However, with Reeves completing the screenplay and production apparently aiming to get underway early in 2019, it’s surely only a matter of time until we get some official clarification.
