With Warner Bros.’ Suicide Squad 2 pushed to the back burner in favour of the DC girl gang movie Birds of Prey, director Gavin O’Connor has turned his attention to The Has-Been, which – if deals are closed – will reunite him with The Accountant star Ben Affleck.
Scripted by Brad Ingelsby (Out of the Furnace), The Has-Been would see Affleck playing “a former basketball all-star who has lost his wife and family foundation in a struggle with addiction. He attempts to regain his soul and salvation by becoming the coach of a disparate, ethnically mixed high school basketball team at his alma mater.”
In addition to directing, O’Connor would direct the movie with Affleck and Jennifer Todd, Mark Ciardi and Gordon Grey. Warner Bros. is looking to close deals quickly, with the studio looking to fast track the project.
In addition to The Has-Been, O’Connor and Affleck are also attached to a sequel to the 2016 crime thriller The Accountant, with the duo signing on to the film last year. At this point, it’s unclear which project would move ahead first.
