Last week it was reported that Warner Bros. is planning to announce a slate of DC movies at Comic-Con, with the upcoming Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice set to be followed by Shazam (July 2016), Sandman (Christmas 2016), Justice League (May 2017), Wonder Woman (July 2017), a Flash / Green Lantern team-up (Christmas 2017) and Man of Steel 2 (May 2018). If accurate, there is of course one major omission from that list in a solo movie for Ben Affleck’s Dark Knight, and if we’re not going to get a new Batman movie between now and 2018, then it must surely be coming in 2019, right?
Well, according to a new rumour from Latino-Review, that just so happens to be the case, with Affleck’s solo movie tentatively set for 2019, and apparently going by the working title of The Batman. Of course the article goes on to state that plans could change, and that we’re not likely to get confirmation for years… unless WB throws a curve ball and announces an earlier Batman movie at Comic-Con, at which point we can probably chalk this one down as guesswork.
Affleck will make his debut as the Caped Crusader in May 2016 in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, where he’ll appear alongside returning Man of Steel stars Henry Cavill (Superman), Amy Adams (Lois Lane), Diane Lane (Martha Kent) and Laurence Fishburne (Perry White) and fellow newcomers Gal Gadot (Fast & Furious 6) as Wonder Woman, Ray Fisher as Cyborg, Jesse Eisenberg (Now You See Me) as Lex Luthor, Jeremy Irons (The Borgias) as Alfred Pennyworth and Holly Hunter (The Piano), Callan Mulvey (300: Rise of an Empire), and Tao Okamoto (The Wolverine) in as-yet-unconfirmed roles.
