Deadline is reporting that acclaimed British filmmaker Ben Wheatley is set to direct a remake of the classic 1953 thriller The Wages of Fear, which he’ll also co-write with his wife and regular collaborator Amy Jump.
Based on Georges Arnaud’s novel Le salaire de la peur, the film was previously remade by William Friedkin with 1977’s Sorcerer, and revolves around a group of desperate men hired to transport a shipment of highly explosive nitroglycerin across the jungle.
Wheatley’s previous films include Kill List, Sightseers, A Field in England and the upcoming High Rise, while his next project is the Martin Scorsese-produced Free Fire, which is set to feature the likes of Brie Larson, Armie Hammer, Cillian Murphy, Sharlto Copley, Jack Reynor, Sam Riley, Noah Taylor, Enzo Cilenti and Michael Smiley.
