After his exploits as Alan Turing in The Imitation Game, Benedict Cumberbatch is joining the war effort once again, with the Sherlock star signing on for the fact-based World War II thriller The War Magician.
The project has been written by Gary Whitta (The Book of Eli, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story) and will see Cumberbatch as Jasper Maskelyne, “a world famous magician who turned his skills toward creating sleight-of-hand stunts that fooled the Nazis and helped Allied fighting forces.”
Cumberbatch is currently shooting Marvel’s Phase Three origin story Doctor Strange, where he portrays the title character of Dr. Stephen Strange, and will be back as Sherlock Holmes this New Year’s Day for the Sherlock special The Abominable Bride.
