We’ve heard on numerous occasions that not all of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes will make it out of Avengers: Infinity War alive, with much of the fan speculation pointing towards some of the original Avengers falling during the battle with Thanos as Marvel looks to shift the focus towards its newer characters.
While that may be the case, it seems that even our Phase Two and Phase Three heroes may not be safe, as Benedict Cumberbatch has teased to MTV that Infinity War may be the end for Doctor Strange.
“There’s lots of threats coming his way,” said Cumberbatch. “He holds the Time Stone around his neck for a part of this film. We know someone is coming to get them for a big glove. It might not be [okay for Doctor Strange]. It says you’ll see Doctor Strange again at the end of the first one and you have. You’ve seen him in Thor: Ragnarok and you know he’s in this one. Doesn’t mean there’s gonna be any more of him, so you’ll have to wait and see.”
It has been expected that Doctor Strange 2 will be part of Marvel’s Phase Four slate, but unlike Spider-Man: Homecoming 2, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and Black Panther 2, there’s yet to be any official confirmation from Marvel.
So, does that mean Doctor Strange won’t make it out of Infinity War alive, or is Marvel just trying to keep fans guessing? We shall find out next week… although there’s also the small matter of Avengers 4 in 2019.
