Breaking news this evening from the world of Marvel, with word that the studio has finally found its Doctor Strange in the tall, British form of Benedict Cumberbatch (Sherlock, Star Trek Into Darkness).
Rumours have been circulating that the thesp was going to be involved in Star Wars: Episode VII in some capacity, but now it seems he has chosen to join the Marvel universe after all. Deadline reports this evening that Cumberbatch is in final negotiations for the title role, which was set to go to Joaquin Phoenix until the Inherent Vice and Her star dropped out of contention.
In recent weeks, the likes of Keanu Reeves (John Wick), Jared Leto (Dallas Buyers Club), Oscar Isaac (Star Wars: Episode 7), Ewan McGregor (Son of a Gun) and True Detective Season Two star Colin Farrell have all been mooted for the part.
What do you guys think of the casting? Will Cumberbatch pull it off with the same aplomb and relish as he did when he played Khan in Star Trek? Give us your thoughts below…
