Benedict Cumberbatch is set to produce and star in Fox Searchlight’s upcoming adaptation of Geoffrey Household’s 1939 novel Rogue Male, The Hollywood Reporter has revealed.
“I am thrilled both as an actor and producer to be working on bringing this most treasured of English novels to the big screen,” states Cumberbatch, who will next be seen this November as Dr. Stephen Strange in Marvel’s Doctor Strange.
Rogue Male has been scripted by Michael Lesslie (Macbeth, Assassin’s Creed) and follows “a hunter who attempts to assassinate a dictator but is caught, tortured and left for dead. When he escapes back home to England, he must hide out in a harsh countryside with the enemy agents as well as the police in hot pursuit.”
The novel has previously been adapted for the screen on two occasions in Fritz Lang’s 1940 film Man Hunt, along with a 1977 BBC TV movie starring Peter O’Toole.
