Deadline is reporting that a bidding war is underway for a potential TV series adaptation of the 2013 sci-fi horror film Under the Skin, with the movie’s original financier Silver Reel and studio A24 said to be going “toe-to-toe” over the rights.
Based on the novel by Michel Faber, Under the Skin was directed by Jonathan Glazer and starred Scarlett Johansson as an extraterrestrial who preys on men in Scotland. Although it failed at the box office, the film was critically acclaimed and has developed a cult following.
Silver Reel has been keen on a TV adaptation of Under the Skin for the past couple of years, and was previously in talks with director Glazer and producer James Wilson but failed to reach an agreement.
As a result, Silver Reel called in its debt on the movie, which led to Glazer and Wilson’s production company Seventh Kingdom Productions going into administration and the rights essentially auctioned off to the highest bidder. A deal is expected to close within weeks.
