Bill Hader (Barry) is a peerless master of voices, and now he’ll need to add a talking feline to his repertoire with the news that he’s set to star in Warner Bros. new animated The Cat in the Hat.
Per The Hollywood Reporter’s story, the IT Chapter Two actor is set to take the titular role in the film based on the classic Dr. Seuss book.
Hader, who has lent his voice to the likes of Inside Out and Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, will be joined by Quinta Brunson (Abbott Elementary), Bowen Yang (SNL), Xochitl Gomez (Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness), Matt Berry (What We Do in The Shadows) and Paula Pell (Girls5eva).
The Cat in the Hat is being being written and directed by Alessandro Carloni (Kung Fu Panda 3) and Erica Rivinoja (The Last Man on Earth), with a release date set for March 6, 2026.
Dr. Seuss has proven to be quite a lucrative source of material when it comes to big-screen adaptations, with 2000’s How the Grinch Stole Christmas grossing $346 million, it’s animated iteration The Grinch doing even better in 2018 with $540 million worldwide, while Horton Hears a Who tapped out with $300 million back in 2018.
The notable exception being the 2003 live-action adaptation of The Cat in the Hat, which was savaged by critics on its way to a lacklustre worldwide haul of $133 million.
The Cat in the Hat tells the story of a young girl named Sally, who along with her brother is left home alone on a rainy day. Just when they think they are in for a dull time, the Cat in the Hat steps onto the mat, bringing with him madness and mayhem.
