Last week it was announced that Sony is working with Paul Feig to reboot classic 80s comedy Ghostbusters with an all-female cast. We’ve heard from Ernie Hudson on his rather controversial thoughts and now we can hear from Peter Venkman himself Bill Murray on his views on the reboot.
On David Letterman last night, Murray gave some thoughts on an all-female cast saying, “I think it would be swell. I would go watch that one in a second.”
As for casting Murray said, “I think you want to have some funny girls, and you want to have some action girls. I always think of girls I’ve worked with lately… like Melissa McCarthy. She’s very funny. I like Emma Stone, I think she’s funny as heck. I think my friend Linda Cardellini could be an action hero – and funny.”
Murray then went on to ask the audience for suggestions.
“Kristen Wiig? Oh yeah, she’s really funny. Amy Poehler? All those girls on Parks & Recreation are funny. Rashida Jones and… Betty White (laughs).”
He also mentioned the fallings of Ghostbusters 3 saying, “We made a first one and it was really great, and then we made a second that was… not quite as good but it had some good stuff in it. But with the second one… it was hard to get into that groove again, because the first one was so wonderful. So the studio has always wanted to do another one because… they can’t come up with any other ideas really.”

No other words on the Ghostbusters reboot in terms of release dates, but the movie is being written by Katie Dippold (The Heat).
What do you think of Murray’s casting suggestions?
