In news coming out of the Toronto Film Festival, THR is reporting that indie filmmakers Jonathan and Justin Gajewski have optioned the life rights to Rocky Johnson, WWE Hall of Famer and father of Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, for a biopic entitled Ring King.
“We are very excited to bring Rocky Johnson’s incredible story to the world,” said the Gajewskis, who are producing the film through their JG Brothers production company. Their previous credits include assistant director roles on the likes of Suicide Squad and Scott Pilgrim vs. the World.
Rocky Johnson was born in Nova Scotia and began his pro-wrestling career in the mid 1960s, initially working in an around Toronto before becoming a top NWA contender and eventual World Wrestling Federation Superstar. In the WWF, he would team with Tony Atlas, the duo becoming the first ever black tag team to hold the Tag Team Championship.
