Black Mirror creator doesn’t know if he or viewers can “stomach” another season of the show right now

May 7, 2020 by EJ Moreno

A series about the darkest parts of life and always needing to find new ways to scare viewers, it seems like Black Mirror might be a bit too bleak for life currently. At least, that’s how creator Charlie Brooker feels as he opens up about delaying season six of his Netflix series.

In an interview with Radio Times, Brooker was asked if he’s working on another season of the show and went on to imply that the public’s mood is not ready for one quite yet.

“I’ve been busy doing things. I don’t know what I can say about what I’m doing and not doing,” said Brooker. “At the moment, I don’t know what stomach there would be for stories about societies falling apart, so I’m not working away on one of those. I’m sort of keen to revisit my comic skill set, so I’ve been writing scripts aimed at making myself laugh.”

With the current global health crisis, it makes sense that Brooker would feel the need to find a lighter tone in his work. But one has to wonder if the show will return with an episode similar to the current situation.

The fifth season of Black Mirror saw its Netflix release in June 2019, and consisted of only three episodes, which featured stars like Anthony Mackie, Topher Grace, and Miley Cyrus. That season followed the interactive film Bandersnatch, where Netflix tried using the “choose your own adventure” format for the first time.
