Marvel’s superhero blockbuster Black Panther has continued its spectacular box office run, with its third weekend taking the Ryan Coogler-directed movie beyond the $500 million mark domestically, and just shy of $900 million worldwide.
Black Panther grossed $65.7 million across Friday-to-Sunday in North America, the third-highest third weekend gross ever, to push its domestic haul to $501.1 million. That puts its ahead of Avengers: Age of Ultron to make it Marvel’s second-biggest domestic release behind The Avengers on $623.4 million, and the tenth biggest domestic release of all time.
Internationally, the film has added a further $396.6 million for a cumulative worldwide haul of $897.7 million. That’s mighty impressive, especially considering it is yet to open in China. It does so there this coming Friday, at which point it will likely have become the fifth Marvel Cinematic Universe release to hit $1 billion.
