Blade Runner 2049 gets R-rating for “violence, nudity and language”

August 10, 2017 by Jordan Jones

It looks like Blade Runner 2049 is going to be as dark, and violent as its predecessor. The MPAA just gave an official R-rating to the Denis Villeneuve directed sequel to the 1982 classic. So, why is it Rated R? According to the MPAA: For violence, some sexuality, nudity and language.

This rating is definitely keeping in the spirit of the original movie. Blade Runner starred Harrison Ford, known for somewhat lighter franchises at the time, but was never meant to be family-oriented. A big risk with reviving these older franchises is getting cold-feet, and trying to make the film marketable to all ages instead of it’s intended (and original) demographic. Perhaps we have a movie like Deadpool and Logan to thank? Both films were wildly successful, and proved that you can still achieve box office success without sacrificing the integrity of the material.

Thirty years after the events of the first film, a new blade runner, LAPD Officer K (Ryan Gosling), unearths a long-buried secret that has the potential to plunge what’s left of society into chaos. K’s discovery leads him on a quest to find Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford), a former LAPD blade runner who has been missing for 30 years.

Blade Runner 2049 is set for release on October 6th and sees Harrison Ford reprising the role of Rick Deckard alongside Ryan Gosling, Ana de Armas, Sylvia Hoeks, Robin Wright, Mackenzie Davis, Carla Juri, Lennie James, Dave Bautista, Jared Leto and Edward James Olmos.
