As with the novel, Firestarter revolves around a young girl with pyrokinetic abilities and is abducted by a secret government agency that wants to harness her powerful gift as a weapon.
The film is being directed by Keith Tomas (The Vigil) from a script by Scott Teems (Halloween Kills), and sees Zac Efron (The Greatest Showman) starring alongside Michael Greyeyes (True Detective). Further casting details are yet to be announced.
Jason Blum and Akiva Goldsman are producing the film, while Martha De Laurentiis, an associate producer on the 1984 adaptation starring a young Drew Barrymore, will executive produce.
