Bong Joon-ho’s Okja begins filming; Lily Collins, Steven Yeun and more join cast

April 23, 2016 by Scott J. Davis

Filming is now underway in South Korea on acclaimed director Bong Joon-ho’s (Snowpiercer) new film Okja, with the director adding multiple actors to the Netflix original film, The Hollywood Reporter has revealed.

Okja is co-written by Bong and Jon Ronson (Frank) and tells the story of “young girl who must risk everything to prevent a powerful, multi-national company from kidnapping her best friend – a massive animal named ‘Okja’”.

With filming beginning, Bong has added Lily Collins (Love, Rosie), Steven Yeun (The Walking Dead), Shirley Henderson (Filth), Daniel Henshall (The Babadook), Devon Bostick (The 100), Byun Heebong (The Host), Yoon Je Moon (Mother) and Choi Wooshik (Set Me Free) to the cast. Jake Gyllenhaal (Demolition), Tilda Swinton (A Bigger Splash) and Paul Dano (Love & Mercy) were previously announced

Okja is set for release in 2017 on Netflix, as well as having a limited day/date release in select cinemas in the US, and potentially in other territories too.
