While many are mourning the sad fate of cinemas during this global crisis and wondering if releasing a movie online is a good option, Borat 2 is providing to be a big success for Amazon.
The film’s streaming release seems to have paid off nicely for all involved as the company is claiming that “tens of millions” around the world tuned into the sequel during its opening weekend on Amazon Prime.
TV analytics provider Samba TV says US viewership for the Sacha Baron Cohen movie was at 1.6 million, a number that Amazon says is incorrect.
Celebrating the film’s success, Jennifer Salke, head of Amazon Studios, said in a statement (via Yahoo Finance): “Sacha has masterfully created one of the most well-received films of these unprecedented times — showcasing some of the best and the worst of us, wrapped in one outrageous moment after another. With the tremendous launch of this global, tentpole movie, it’s clear our customers around the world want content that is both relevant and entertaining.”
