Deadline is reporting that Netflix has acquired the distribution rights for Brad Pitt-starrer War Machine, which is directed by David Michod.
The film sees Pitt as a “four-star rock star U.S. military general” and is a satirical comedy based on the bestselling book by Michael Hastings called The Operators: The Wild and Terrifying Inside Story of America’s War In Afghanistan. Director Michod wrote the script, and is best known for films such as The Rover and Animal Kingdom.
It marks another milestone in Netflix’s short history, paying a record $30 million for the rights for the film, the most they have ever paid for a project. Indeed it is also the first time an actor of Pitt’s A-list calibre has signed with the ever-expanding streaming service, with Adam Sandler and Woody Allen the previous big-name signatures.
No date has been set for the films debut, but we will update you with any news as soon as it is announced.
