The Wrap is reporting that Academy Award nominee Bradley Cooper (American Sniper) is set to star in the new film from writer Max Landis.
Landis, famed for his scripts for American Ultra and Chronicle, has written a spec script for Deeper, news of which was announced at the end of last year, with Kornel Mundruczo (White God) set to direct the film.
The script has had many suitors over the months since it was announced, with Lionsgate and Paramount Pictures amongst those interested in purchasing the rights for the film.
Deeper reportedly “involves a former astronaut hired to take a submersible to the lowest point in the ocean. As the submersible gets closer to its destination, supernatural events start to get involved.”
Landis, who is also producing the project with Addictive Pictures and David S. Goyer (Batman Begins, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice), has had a good couple of months after another spec script, Bright, was bought for $4 million by Netflix, who have put the film into production with a $90million budget with Will Smith (Suicide Squad) and Joel Edgerton (Midnight Special) set to star and David Ayer (Suicide Squad) directing.
Cooper is soon to make his directorial debut with a remake of A Star is Born, starring Beyonce.
