Warner Bros. released the final trailer for next month’s Justice League over the weekend, which opens by exploring the loss of Superman, before focusing on the formation of the team as Batman, Wonder Woman, The Flash, Aquaman and Cyborg do battle against Steppenwolf and his army of parademons. Universal Pictures have announced a little shake-up for their Fast & Furious franchise, pushing back Fast & Furious 9 to 2020 while setting a release date of July 26th 2019 for the Hobbes/Shaw spin-off starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Jason Statham. Read more here.
Last month it was rumoured that Jeremy Renner’s Clint Barton will be adopting the Ronin identity for Avengers 4, and while that’s yet to be officially confirmed, the latest batch of set photos from the superhero blockbuster do offer a glimpse of a new look for Hawkeye, complete with new hairstyle sleeve tattoo. DARK UNIVERSE TO GET SOME WONDER?
It has been long-rumoured that Universal wanted to cast Angelina Jolie as the Bride of Frankenstein in the 2019 movie, however a new report from The Wrap says the studio are now considering Wonder Woman herself Gal Gadot. Not only that, but Universal announced they had postponed the production of the movie – so it’s 2019 release date could now be out of the question. “After thoughtful consideration, Universal Pictures and director Bill Condon have decided to postpone Bride of Frankenstein,” reads the official statement from Universal. “None of us want to move too quickly to meet a release date when we know this special movie needs more time to come together. Bill is a director whose enormous talent has been proven time and again, and we all look forward to continuing to work on this film together.” Read more here.
At the New York Comic Con, Kevin Smith revealed during a Q&A that The Weinstein company approached him about doing a sequel to his 1999 comedy movie Dogma. However, the Clerks director isn’t looking to get go there again. “Fuck no. I don’t think we need a Dogma 2. And I am sure as shit not going near any religious movies at this point,” he said. “Harvey Weinstein and Bob Weinstein own that movie personally, and what happened is Harvey called up a few months ago and he’s like, ‘We still have Dogma, and maybe we need to make a sequel. I’m like ‘Oh, no I’m not going to do a religious movie ever again.’ I mean Red State is a bit of a religious movie… so maybe I have another religious movie in me, but it won’t be a sequel to Dogma.” Read more here.
A sequel that does look to be finally making some movement however is Bill & Ted 3, which Keanu Reeves has revealed will be titled Bill & Ted Face The Music. “There’s a script out there,” he said at New York Comic Con. “We’re just trying to get it made. Show business is tough. It’s a cautionary tale. They’re supposed to save the world. But when we see them, they haven’t saved the world, and they’re married and have kids. And they’re playing to nobody. But they have to write the song… and face the music! Hopefully we’ll make it before I’m 60.” Read more here.
Seemingly replicating its predecessor, Blade Runner 2049 has had a very soft opening at the box office. Despite overwhelmingly positive reviews, Denis Villeneuve’s sci-fi sequel grossed approximately $81.5 million worldwide across the Friday to Sunday period. Depending on who you believe, the film cost between $150 and $185 million. Read more here.
