Last summer, Legendary Pictures announced that it is in development on a live-action feature film adaptation of the anime franchise Gundam, and now comes word from THR that acclaimed comic book writer Brian K. Vaughan (Y: The Last Man, Saga) is set to pen the script for the movie.
First launching back in 1979, Gundam takes place in a fictional universe in the Universal Century, where humanity’s growing population has led people to emigrate to space colonies. One such colony, the Principality of Zeon, declares independence from Earth, leading to a war which is fought with mechas known as Gundam.

The Gundam movie will be co-produced by Legendary and Japanese animation studio Sunrise, the owners of the hugely popular franchise. As yet, there’s no indication as to a possible release date.
