Bruce Campbell is a one man hype-train for the new Evil Dead movie. Earlier this month, he announced the upcoming film and said that Sam Raimi handpicked The Hole in the Ground’s Lee Cronin to helm the project, and now in a new interview with Diabolique Magazine, Campbell gives more of his insight on project.
“The official name is Evil Dead Rise,” said Campbell, who had previously called the film Evil Dead Now. “We’re getting a new draft in. I don’t think anything will happen until 2021. Full bore ahead, we’re very excited about it.”
One of the more exciting things to note in the interview is Campbell teasing that the scale and scope of the horror franchise that will change with this new entry. Campbell calls Rise “a whole new ballgame” and says it will leave its familiar setting with a great line about “no more cabin in the woods.”
The recent television series, Ash vs. Evil Dead, did expand the mythos of the universe , and Army of Darkness took the franchise to a different time. But still, it does seem like the root of the franchise is about cabins in woods.
As previously reported, Lee Cronin’s Evil Dead Rise will not feature Campbell’s Ash, and it is presumed that it won’t have any ties to Fede Alvarez’s Evil Dead either, although that is yet to be confirmed.
