Bruce Campbell is set to strap on the chainsaw and boomstick later this year as he returns to the role of Ashley J. Williams for the Sam Raimi-produced STARZ series Ash vs Evil Dead. During an interview with Dread Central, Campbell has offered up a few words on his return as Ash, and his two new cast members in Ray Santiago (Touch) and Dana DeLorenzo (A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas).
“I’m bringing everything to the table. It’s a feisty version of Ash, who’s grizzled and just wants to be left alone. I was there during the casting process, and they’re very talented. Aside from the ensemble [aspect], they each needed to be able to hold their own because they’ll have their own series of missions. It’s an epic tale. How could you not [plan for that]? I’m a strong proponent of the ‘big picture’ plan, and we are planning for five seasons.”
“We are competitive with The Walking Dead, like, ‘We’ll show those fuckers!’,” he continues. “[Our] Deadites are very clever. They not stupid shufflers. They can mimic people; they can drive cars. They’re a fun threat. They [The Walking Dead] are right up there [though] with being responsible for the current resurgence [of horror].”
Meanwhile, in other Ash vs Evil Dead news, The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that Jill Marie Jones (Sleepy Hollow) has nabbed the female lead in the series, and will play “Amanda Fisher, a disgraced Michigan state trooper who, following the grisly murder of her partner, sets out to find Ash and prove his responsibility for the crime. But as she soon learns, Ash and his cohorts may be mankinds only hope against the plague of the evil dead.”
Production is set to get underway on Ash vs Evil Dead this April, with Sam Raimi directing the pilot.
